Craftsman V20 String Trimmer and Leaf Blower Review: The Right Tools

With summer on its way the lawn begins resembling a thicket. I found myself unprepared, since I usually rely on a lawn care service and trying to get one out on short notice was going to be pricey. I had been meaning to invest in some gardening tools of my own, and it seemed like a great place to do it.

Enlisting a professional to ensure one’s lawn is healthy is essential, but I enjoy working in the garden and it seemed like a good way to save a little money. Less busywork for the pros, and a little light work for me.

I am familiar with Craftsman products having owned several hand tools from the brand over the years. The 20V string trimmer and leaf blower combo seemed like a no brainer.

Firstly, its pricing is reasonable enough, a little more than I wanted to spend but it was not much more expensive than buying the string trimmer on its own. Secondly, I already own a Craftsman V20 cordless drill, which uses the very same battery.

The product came well-packaged, naturally I wanted to get to work right away but I did the boring thing and waited for the battery to charge first.

Getting to work with the string trimmer, I found it pleasantly lightweight. It certainly isn’t going to be suitable for large areas or dense vegetation, but I did find it to be an impressive tool for those unsightly and scruffy lawn edges. Its light weight makes handling a cinch.

Once I had gone to town with the little string trimmer, the charge began to fade so I set it down. I looked back and was impressed at how much it got done on a single charge. It was a mess, grass everywhere! Time to test the leaf blower out.

I remembered that I had another battery, so I fired up the leaf blower. It has a low and high power setting, but I found myself only needing the low setting to clear things up. The leaf blower is lightweight and easy to handle, barely heavier than the can of lager in my other hand.

Overall I am satisfied with my purchase, time will tell how well it holds up. That said, I am not unfamiliar with the Craftsman brand having used many a Craftsman wrench while working on cars. The V20 cordless drill I mentioned is as sturdy as any competitor I have used, so I have similar expectations of the V20 string trimmer and blower.
